I just got a call from this number and I answered it. I received one previously (a week ago) and searched the number as the blow-hard who left the message said it was extremely urgent that I contact them... I said to him now on the phone after he told me who he was that I had searched the number before and they were fakers and a fraud and he was a fraudulent A--Hole and to never call here again, then I hung up... WHEW!!! I have never been so rude on the phone in my life..but it felt good after..as far as them, if they call here again I will threaten them with a lawsuit!!
Same issue. He called three times in 30 minutes and threatened me with a lawsuit on my voicemail. I figured is was fake because he called at 6 pm. The next day he called again but didn't speak when I answered. I called back and he went on to identify himself as an employee of the US Treasury in the Legal Department. He said I owe taxes. I told him to send me the paperwork in writing then he became irate. He said he is sending the police to me within 45 minutes and hung up the phone. Two minutes later I called him back and very rudely told him to never call my phone again or I will contact the authorities.
They called my husband not even 20 minutes said we owed over 3,000$ in taxes in 2012 and said they would send the FBI agents to our house in 30 min. I am [***] and my husband is even more pissed. The guy said we couldn't have a lawyer.
There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers in both Canada and the USA.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.
