I got the same call from these same predators. These scams threatening people with legal action are about the lowest from this bottom-dwelling group of thieves. These have the potential to frighten vulnerable people (such as the elderly) into falling for this scam. No legitimate legal group (such as the IRS, etc) would EVER contact you in such a vague way and then ask for money over the phone (which is where they are trying to lure you). I just hate this one!
It's a recorded call by a computer voice that says: "Ignoring this message will be an additional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate, judge, or the grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 213-291-8485, I repeat it's 213-291-8485. Do not disregard this message and do return this call. Now, if you don't return the call, and I don't hear from your attorney either, then the only thing I can do is wish you a good luck as the situation unfolds on you. Goodbye.

I also got a call from these predators this morning. To Lauren who posted above, rest assured that this is an especially vicious form of these illegal robocalls. I say 'vicious' in that, unlike the vast majority of these phone scams, this one (and others like it) have genuinely scared people by threatening them with legal action. A few things to consider about these particular scams (sometimes they claim that they are from the IRS, etc):
1. Firstly, the IRS (or other legal agencies) will NEVER contact you this way!
2. Note that they almost never address you by name or specify what type of infraction they are referring to.
3. If you are EVER asked for any type of payment over the phone (which is where these scam calls are luring you), the IRS or other agencies will NEVER ask for payment this way!
I am especially concerned about these criminals preying on those vulnerable, such as the elderly! These scams are the lowest of the low.......
