I'm in the middle of a work meeting, I get a call from 213-799-0709 out of Los Angeles, California. I don't know anyone in LA, CA, I let it go to voicemail. After the meeting, I check for a voicemail and there is one. A female computer voice left a snippet of message , "(voicemail begins)...press 1 now and you will be transfered to our 24 hour security...(voicemail ends)". I call the number back, no ring and no connection happens. I try a couple more times with a 1+, same thing. I Google the number and find 800notes.com, my suspicions are confirmed. Heard phone ringing, answered it, did not recognize the number! Said it was from Greylock Federal Credit union. Said that card had been locked but bank doesnt have my cell number. Listened to the recorded message and I hung up. I was verry confuzed. Called bank and bank said they do not know or own any number with this area code. I then went online and looked this up, I found that it is a California number that had been attempted to be looked into many times, but failed. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
I received two phone calls from this number, one yesterday and one today, both in the afternoon (pacific time). It was a voice recording, stating that the woman was calling from Greylock Federal Credit Union to say that my Visa debit card was locked. What a crock. Greylock is an actual credit union, but the recording never identified an actual bank the supposed debit card was from (e.g., Citizens, Bank of America, Sovereign, etc.). I called the number back from a different phone and it didn't even ring. [***].
