Received a call today from this joker. Forgot his name but he called me 3 times. The first 2 I could not hear him speak but I could hear all the other telemarketers in the background. On the 3rd call I could actually hear him and he told me he was a SPECIAL AGENT FROM THE LOS ANGELES DEA. I just told him to go FRACK HIMSELF and hung up on him. I would suggest anyone else to do the same.

I got a call from this number with two different people claiming to be a DEA agent. I had gotten a similar call to this some months ago and called the DEA directly to find out what was going on. I was informed that this was a scam and that the DEA had nothing to do with it. The DEA has a scam alert on their website. These people will threaten you with search and seizure if you don't comply by sending cash by Western Union to some offshore location (for me it was the Dominican Republic). The "agent" insisted that I go to the bank and get cash and send it while he was on the phone with me. I made up an excuse to get away from the phone and put it on mute. At that time, I called my local law enforcement and asked for an officer to come to my house. I returned to the call and informed the "agent" that I had a officer on the way. He got really mad, threatened me some more, then hung up the phone. I later learned the phone number he was calling from was a MagicJack number.

I just got another one of these calls and started asking them for information, like name, location, badge number. As soon as I asked for the badge number, the "agent" hung up. They have started calling me again and I will inform them that I've already spoken to the DEA.

Don't let these people scare you into giving them money. They are scammers. First ask for their badge number then tell them you've already spoken to the DEA. They will hang up, hopefully without verbally abusing you first.

DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by DEA Special Agent Impersonators

The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.

Extortion Scam Criminal

The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the internet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies. The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the internet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine. In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas. If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property. Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.

Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law. The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.

The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet. It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met. And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the internet must be registered with DEA. By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law. In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.

Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat using the online form below. Please include all fields, including, most importantly, a call back number so that a DEA investigator can contact you for additional information. Online reporting will greatly assist DEA in investigating and stopping this criminal activity.

This number called my business saying they were from "Direct Energy." They said that they were going to send a technician down to cut off our power for un-paid bills. First, we don't do any business with DIRECT ENERGY, and then they stated that they do all the technical work for all the electric companies, I asked them which ones... once I started asking them questions, they didn't have any answers and start to get aggressive back threatening to cut off our electricity. All of our bills are up to date and I knew this was a scam.

I contacted "real" Direct Energy (Alberta, Canada) and told them the situation. They said that there has been a lot of those call and many of their customers have been scammed. They mentioned that any legit company would first send warning via mail/email before ever cutting off power
