John, in my experience police, firemen, Red Cross, Salvation Army and the like have a distinctive and properly named caller ID. Also and more importantly these organizations solicit exclusively in their geographic area ONLY. It's easy to ascertain an '800' type number where they are calling from. I wouldn't answer that number until that is determined and then return the call if you wish. Or wait till they call you back.
Again they have an identifiable caller ID BUT I WOULD AUTHENTICATE IT FIRST.
Received similar calls from 214-200- 4047, 4055, 4160. Other day for whatever reason the Robo Call blocker I use missed 4056, and they let my phone ring 10-12 times before I unplugged it. Now the blocker is catching this one too. What a nuisance.
I have answered this call repeatedly just to mess with them and they state they are some type of agency benefiting our police, state troopers and the like. I have told them each time that they are a bandit organization and that I have no money to give them and would not if I was a billionaire. I asked that they take our number off the list each time I speak with them and they always say they will and call back the next day. I pity the people that can only get a job such as this. Disturbing folks at home, how admirable.
