Here's the answer to all our prayers. I found this on a site I posted a telemarketer's number at. I tried it and it WORKS! I put the tones at the beginning of my phone greeting about three months ago and in the last three weeks have had "ZERO" calls. Whover posted that "THANK YOU, THANKI YOU". Here's what I found:
Telemarketers almost exclusively use autodialers to make their calls. One out of a thousand will have live reps doing the dialing. When these dialers connect (you answer the phone) they first listen for any tones generated. If no tones are detected they then transfer the call to one of the reps in a call center. If the autodialer hears the 3 beeps from dialing a "DISCONNECTED" number, the number that was just dialed is automatically "REMOVED" from their list. Below is a link that has this tone plus the verbal message. You DO NOT need the verbal message. Download or copy the "DISCONNECTED" MP3 or WAV file to your desktop. Create or change the greeting you have when someone calls you and you're not available. At the VERY BEGINNING of your message place the 3 tones (NOT THE VOICE MESSAGE) then continue with your usual or normal greeting. The autodialer will hear the tones and BINGO, your number will be removed since they think it's a disconnected number. DONE. In a few weeks you will be removed from all or most of the lists. Of course you may have to explain the tones to the callers you DO want to speak to but that's a small tradeoff. Pass this info on to anyone you know that gets junk calls or even help post this on these websites. If you continue getting calls after reading this, it's your "OWN" fault! END JUNK CALLS.
just scroll up 1 space above the screen you see (on most phones) and change the ring tone (fir when that contact calls) to "no ring". That way you are not disturbed by their ring which is nice if you are in public. That way you don't have a bunch of people wondering why you don't answer your phone. But, most likely they would know anyway that it is a bill collector because they are doing the same time,.
This way you are never disturbed except for the "wooep" sound you get when you miss answering a call. At least that is a lot better than it ringing all the time plus you will not always being inappropriately arroused due to the vibrate function if you are using that instead of a ringer. Some might like the vibrate, but it usually comes at the wrong time, right?
I was suggesting you save all of their numbers in your contacts and set the ring tone to "no ring". You can do this on all cell phones I think. Be sure to put a "Z" in front of their name. This way all of these numbers will be saved at the end of your contact list and you won't have to scroll through them on your way to another number. AMX does the same thing (even though this is a card I am not responsible for).
Some days I'll look at my phone and see a list of missed calls 10 or 12 long with Zamx, ZDrive, Zanotheramx, zdambndrive etc taking turns going throu all of their different numbers.
Here is a list of, I think, all of the numbers they use"
214-237-3516
214-540-0714
303-658-9000
469-385-5260
214-237-3670
888-222-4227
214-540-2035
These are Santander numbers which is the same company as Drive Finance now. I do not think they have called me under any other numbers than these. Save them all in your contacts under Z. You con update existing instead of setting up new contact by adding each new number as work, home, mobil one, mobile 2, fax etc -- whatever your phone will let you do.
They also use 214-757-1242 and I'm guessing anything else that ends in 124_. As for blocking them, check online for specifics, but on my motorola barrage, go to phone settings, security settings, click "yes", enter code, then restrictions, and enter your code again, then calls, incoming calls, and there are a couple options.
FYI, for anyone who's listening, they're calling me the day after my car payment was due (sent via mail) and have called every hour at 20 mins after, from 8 am EST to 9pm EST with the exception of the noon hour (when I'm assuming they eat lunch). I told them the first time they called that the payment was already in the mail, and the guy told me "yeah right, like we never hear that one". I asked to talk to a supervisor and was "cut off" in the process of transferring to her. The next time they called, I asked what they needed to stop calling, and the same guy said that they needed me to pay almost $20 to make a phone payment that day, and that they "promised" not to cash the check when it arrrived... YEAH RIGHT!!!!!! My only other option was to pay almost $20 to them and then pay another $20 to stop-payment on the check I sent.... soooo until the check gets there (which generally takes almost 2 weeks when I mail it RIGHT before it's due and 3 days any other time).... I'm stuck dealing with them. I filed a complaint with BBB already, and am documenting the times they call to provide to BBB.
Oh yeah, and my account was told to them by Citi Financial Auto as a "delinquent account" when I was a month AHEAD on payments.... soooo, [***] Citi, too! They screwed me over on a credit card and now my car loan. Never dealing with either company again, and will go out of my way to advise others to avoid them too!
