Yeah, these morons keep calling our house, despite the fact that i have told them to stop now seven times. They are simply a testing service and have gotten access to our students database information, probably through ACT registration.
My call was similar to those above, the person was asking about some PSAT Testing that my daughter was needing. When I said I didn't have a daughter that was a "Freshman/Sophomore," I was told that sometimes kids get "confused" and fill out the forms wrong by putting their grandparents and other people in the wrong places... (I guess this was them searching to discover if I would reveal some other relative that would fit the bill). When I pressed about what the name of the "child" was, she skirted the issue by saying that really my husband's name was on the form and I said well he has the same children as I do, again pressing her for the name of the said child. She again, skirted the question, said something else, and I AGAIN for the 3rd time, asked her for the name of the child.... She, of course, hung up! We never got to any credit card questions or charges or materials. Upon trying to call the number back, I, too, got a busy signal. If this is a known scam, as is being described on this site, then why aren't these people being caught and prosecuted? Why can't the phone number, at least, be shut down? Why can't it be traced? I cannot stand thieves!!!
Actually they are thieves and scammers. Tricking the school district into disclosing information that should never have been disclosed to these crooks in the first place hardly makes them legitimate!
I just received a call from a woman at this number claiming to be from "Student Services". She was extremely rude when I questioned her statements that "Student Services" is the assigned provider of PSAT & SAT study materials for my school district. She also claimed my son requested these materials, which he did not. She is a “piece of work”! After I informed her that I already have study materials and am not interested, she stated that I am condescending and do not care about my son, then hung up! When I called the number back to report her unprofessionalism and to be removed from the call list, I discovered this was not a business line. Must be her home number. A man answered "hello"... I told him the business name I was trying to reach, and he immediately hung up on me. This is a “Sham”!
