Who's going to do that? It won't be anyone on here since you can do that better than we can. This site doesn't offer call blocking, or placing individual's numbers on any no call lists.
Got a call from "Childrens Cancer....." They hung up before I could answer. I would NEVER give to a charity by phone. Contact me by mail with all your info and I'll take a look at your credentials.
STOP CALLING ME!! Even if this is what it says, I highly doubt any families get what you might give to any call center..
I have been scammed by one too many "charities".
I AM ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST!!!!!
i HAVE NOW BLOCKED 217-280-4885.
When they called me they said they would MAIL me an envelope so that I could send in my donation. Ok that's fine I said. Then they transfer me to a "verifier" who already had all my information and now tried to seduce me with saving the charity money by using a credit card. I said... on what planet are you living if you think I am going to give you credit card information over the phone? All the other charities mail - heart association, March of Dimes - etc.
If you called them back and the mailbox is full - that is a good indicator that someone is using this charity as a front for whatever activity they are up to.
It must be a scam or they wouldn't lie to you about how using the credit card would save them money---just the opposite, they pay for the use of a credit card, where a check sent in costs them nothing. I studied this supposed "charity" and found they are very lowly rated, especially in the area of how much of the money actually goes to "charity" in proportion to how much is taken up by the fundraising effort itself. (In other words how much is skimmed off the top and put in the telemarketer's pockets.) I would not give to this supposed charity. They can call me every day until next Christmas and they will get NOTHING!
I looked them up on Charity Navigator. They're out of Pennsylvania and they rate 2 stars out of 4, not a great score. They spend 35% of every dollar they collect on fundraising (they use telemarketers) and adminstrative expenses. They don't publish a donor privacy policy on their website, and don't provide an audited financial statement. They don't list their independent voting board on their 990 form.
The average review by people who have been solicited is 1.2 stars out of 5.
A lot of charities can be legitimate, and give *some* of the money they collect to the actual charity, but many are basically telemarketing money-making businesses. There was a TV news program about these kinds of organizations years ago. You know the ones that come and collect your old clothes and household items. In some cases the amount of money that actually reached the charity was less than 5% of the money generated. Just because they are legally registered as a charity doesn't mean what you think it might.
I agree that helping children with cancer is a good thing, but be careful who you send your dollars to. Some people keep more for themselves than you think. Do your research carefully before donating.
Nice job on the additional research. With what you've added people will be more informed, and hopefully avoid this "charity" and be more aware to study other charities before making a commitment.
