Update* - My wife unknowingly picked it up yesterday. Blathered on about mortgages and she told them their call seemed out of place because we re-fy'd a while ago. They had no knowledge of our recent change to our mortgage (why would they... being illegal spammers after all). They didn't take "no thanks" to heart and she politely said "no thanks" again and hung up. She had been waiting on a call within IL so she erroneously thought their call was the one she was expecting.
So, they now know they have a live number and even though she said "no thanks", they still call at least twice a day. Early afternoon (2-ish) and then again around 6 pm or so. This is without fail. I anticipate many, many calls from these irritating mosquitos of telemarketing.
Learn from my experience, either block the number outright or deal with constant calls where they hang-up unless an answer on your part follows. Note, they will always use a machine to dial your number and will only pick-up and begin their verbal spam session if someone answers your phone. If you pick up and say nothing, their system will hang-up on you after a brief few seconds. I have asked my wife if she makes that mistake again (answering their call) to let them make their pitch, set the phone down, and let them waste their time as they do to our time by getting up to answer it each and every time they call. Next time, in addition to my phone being able to block calls (as I won't pay for the service), I will get a phone with a hand-set with a display so I can take it with me.
Anyhow, just trying to help folks with this number. Since I would never answer an unknown call, I thought I'd mention what was found after my wife picked their call up.
Many, many calls from this number. A good 3 weeks worth of memory on this phone and I am up to 22 calls after today (and the day is still young). I have no way to count all the calls before the phones "rolling" memory allows me to go back. Each new call received pushes the furthest message off into obscurity.
The ID states only the number and "Illinois Call" and the area code, if to be believed, is in Chatham which is around Springfield, (home of all the wonderful state-level politicians). The only reason I mention that is because I cannot find any lengthy complaints on this number. The fact political calls can be abusive as telemarketers makes me wonder if it is legally driven by that angle.
Anyhow, I'll throw this message up a few places and see if anyone else is incessantly hassled by the owner of 217-697-2527 as well. Thanks for the time and for any insight one might post up here as well.
