These calls are coming from inmates in the MN and ND area. You set up an account at reliancetelephone.com and then the individual can call you. The calls are $3 to initiate and 0.37 a minute. It is expensive but it is a way to be able to reach an inmate. The jails that have contracted with this company have only one way, in or out to speak with inmates. Once you have your account a voice mail is set up for the individual. You will have a number to call to reach the voice mail, you have about 30 seconds to leave a name and number then the inmate will call back. I can tell you, at least from my experience, that the quality of the phone calls suck.
I get calls from this number everyday. They are from my son who is in the county jail in MN. I set up the account myself through reliance telephone. Sometimes an inmate will call you so you know to set up the account if you choose. It's not a scam. And if you don't know anybody in jail, either they called the wrong number, or you haven't heard....but someone is trying to contact you from jail.
