Is this a scam then? cause I have been getting emails saying they were going to bring me to court and today someone told me the same thing....I do not have money to hire a lawyer.   I am a widow and I haven't been to Ohio in the last ten years.   My email is [email protected]   if it's a scare tactic ,,,,they are doing one heck of a job!

This totally freaked me out!!  But i haven't been to ohio in over ten years....I will make a police report tomorrow on it.   Someone is bound to believe it like i did....And it is quite a shock.  I got this call today september 2,2015   at 11:51 am.   Thank you!!  I am sorry to say this but i am glad to know it is a scam. And i am not the only one targeted.

This is a scam.  If there were a real case pending against you, you'd have heard about it by a letter from the attorney for the other side.  They would be a paper trail.  You would not hear about it by e-mails.  You are right.  Someone is trying to scare some money out of you.  Don't fall for it!  Do not talk to these people and do not give them any money or agree to.  Ignore and block the calls.

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

If they are bothering you,

Report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.  If you can find them.
