Here's the fishy email I got when I responded to an ad on Craigslist for a rental house in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.  The property information in the ad came from the listings of the actual house FOR SALE.

Thanks for the response,well i want you to note this in you that you won't be able to view the inside of the house because the keys and document to the house are here with me in west africa,also money is not the problem all i want is my house been taking very good care of in my absence and the person who is suppose to show you the inside of the house is my cousin who has just travelled to germany for a professional course this is more reason why i decided to rent out the house myself to a good and responsible tenant who has the fear of God...already i and my family are in west africa and we won't be back till the next 4 years so you can rent the house as long as you can.....

i'm glad i did research on this phone number, the one i was suppled with... i was really considering the place that i found on craigslist, a 3 bedroom 2 bath for only $700, the actual addres of the house is a home that is for sale, the email he sent me says to note the for sale sign but its not for sale anymore because of advice his wife gave him, wow these scams are getting good, why is it so hard to find a decent place to live while going to college!?!?! heres the fishy email he sent me:

Thanks for your email,well i personally own the house, i want my property to be well taken good care of, and they are some rules and regulation in which i do give out to my tenant if they are willing to rent my house, so please don't disrespect my order,but if you are still capable of renting my house the rules and regulation goes this way.You must keep my house clean including the surrounding, you must know the way in which you use the gas stove so as to avoid fire outbreak,you must not disturb the neighbor. you might also notice for sale sign in front of the house but am not longer selling the house due to my wife advise so that is why i have decided to rent it out due to our transfer to (West Africa) for a missionary work and we will be staying here in West Africa for 4 years....

Have this in mind you must know the kind of person that i am,but nevertheless i am giving you this rules because of what corresponded between me and my last tenant.The keys and documents are with us here in West Africa ... so i will need to ship them to you before you can occupy the house but you can drove by the house anytime to view the exterior part of the house,so let me know if you are still interested so that i can forward you the Rental Application Form..

Lawrence Thomas in Buffalo, NY is stating the same thing, using the email address [email protected].  What a bummer, the house looked really amazing, but I knew it was too good to be true when the words "fear of God" were used and he asked whether the $900 / month would be alright with me, like rent fee is an option.
