They called and said they were from my Canadian bank and that my VISA card had been used for a $300 eBay purchase and an $1100 western union transfer. I could barely hear them because of static and thick accents. They asked me to go to my computer and press the Windows key, which was super suspicious. When I asked whether they could confirm that they were from my bank, they gave me a long scare tactic about how the RCMP has been notified and fraud is very serious and we don't want to alert the fraudster. They could only give me the first four digits of my card number, which is common knowledge for each bank. I found this very suspicious and they hung up on me.
I just got the exact same call stating it was used on eBay and for western union. It's 6:00 am. I told him I'd call them later and I hung up. I'm also in Nova Scotia.
Just got the same call. East Indian woman. Confimed my name then said my visa had been used on eBay at 3am. I said, oh no, and she hung up. Does this mean she has my card number and just needed my name to use the card?
Got a call at 7:40am saying an eBay purchase was made with my visa at 4:00am. He said was it you? I told him I would have to call back and he said sorry and hung up. He did not identify which bank he was calling from...red flag. Makes me mad that there are scammers out there. Always call your bank back to make sure!!!
I'm in Canada. Called at 7am claiming to be Visa security, saying my Visa had been used at 3am on Ebay. Fortunately, the connection was so bad that she hung up, I didn't need to. 239 is a Florida area code, but sounded like India or Pakistan. Scam.
