Cad2Grand, there is no phone company that assigned the number to these crooks. They are hiding their real number using something called "spoofing." It's against the law, but it's not really enforced. I report the number to the FTC & FCC every time but so far it's just a temporary fix. After a week of daily calls from this number, they'll stop for a bit, then start up again using a new faked number.
Don't give them any info, don't even try talking to them. They're not a real company, they're con artists. They will never give any info as to what they really are. Keep note of the number and ignore when they call again. Or pick up the phone and then hang up without saying a word. Once I realize it's the same old crooks trying their scam from a new faked number I don't bother trying to tell them again to leave us alone. Under previous faked numbers when I tried that, they would threaten me. So there's no point. I find that if I pick up the phone and hang it back up they don't call again that day. Maybe their computers autodial the numbers so it just moves onto the next number? I'm not sure. It's still an annoyance but I'm not sure what else I can do. I've talked to my phone company, filed reports with the police (after the threats), filed complaints but everyone shrugs and says that the scammers are outside the US, not much they can do.
Same story as previous postings, however, when I asked him how he got my information he replied that he was a scammer and it was very easy to obtain. I kept him talking awhile, then said "Thank you very much, you've given me everything I need now and hung up" I tried the number back, and it is "not in service". It would seem that our phone companies should be able to detect when a caller ID has been tampered with and not complete those calls. I'm going to question my phone company on that tomorrow.
I made him so mad he said he hoped I would die and that he WOULD harass me. He called back twice in the next minute - which I ignored.
These calls are completely untraceable - shows it from some poor unsuspecting person in Fl. but that is common in cases like this. He'll be using another telephone number's ID tomorrow.
