Cad2Grand, there is no phone company that assigned the number to these crooks. They are hiding their real number using something called "spoofing." It's against the law, but it's not really enforced. I report the number to the FTC & FCC every time but so far it's just a temporary fix. After a week of daily calls from this number, they'll stop for a bit, then start up again using a new faked number.
Don't give them any info, don't even try talking to them. They're not a real company, they're con artists. They will never give any info as to what they really are. Keep note of the number and ignore when they call again. Or pick up the phone and then hang up without saying a word. Once I realize it's the same old crooks trying their scam from a new faked number I don't bother trying to tell them again to leave us alone. Under previous faked numbers when I tried that, they would threaten me. So there's no point. I find that if I pick up the phone and hang it back up they don't call again that day. Maybe their computers autodial the numbers so it just moves onto the next number? I'm not sure. It's still an annoyance but I'm not sure what else I can do. I've talked to my phone company, filed reports with the police (after the threats), filed complaints but everyone shrugs and says that the scammers are outside the US, not much they can do.
I got a call this evening with the same thing as all above complaints. The man called me back three more times after I hung up on him. I told him never to call me back since he couldn't pronounce my name, he said he can't pronounce it since he doesn't speak English! The fourth time he said he will keep calling me back since he knows my phone number, then told me he knows my address so I better not hang up! I asked if he was threatening me and he said yes!!! My local police said to come in and make a complaint. I will first thing in the morning.
I see the credit debt scammers from India have found a new number to spoof from. It seems like I get a break of maybe a week before they start up with a new number. This has been going on for months now, I have lost all faith in the DNC list. It's obvious that our government will continue to do nothing as these crooks harass us. Apparently it's against the law to spoof your number but nothing is ever done to enforce it. What a joke.
Caller was a woman with a thick Indian accent. She said she was from "Economy Services" probably some made up name. Same spiel, "We are aware that you have credit card debt, you pay your bills on time, is that correct?" That's when I interrupted her that we have no interest in doing business with them, NEVER call again.
If they follow the same pattern as before, I'll get daily calls for about a week or two. Then they'll give up for a few days, because I pick up the receiver when I see the number on Caller ID and immediately hang up without speaking. Just about the time I think they might finally give up for good they'll call again from another fake number. Sometimes I wonder if these are the same crooks that pulled the fake payday loan scam, just trying a different source to rob people.
Called received yesterday and did not answer or leave message. Caller ID had a name but it probably
someone who does not even realize they are using his number. I AM ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST.
DO NOT CALL AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife just got a call from this number this morning. We've been struggling and stressing over our debt and how to take care of it (we're still current with everything, but we see the road ahead) and some woman calls my house and disstresses my wife about our credit card debt and interrogating her about why she's unwilling to sign on to their "debt relief" offer.
I'm livid. This is unacceptable. I want to know which phone company in Florida assigned this number and to whom. Then, I want to call the "whom" and let her know I've found her and that she and her little posse are done aggravating well-meaning everyday families. I am absolutely appalled and enraged over this.
If I get anywhere, I will certainly let you all know.
