I originally received a call from 502-410-0063 on 3/28/2015. I answered, since most of my family is within the 502 area code. It was a representative from SiriusXM wanting to convince me to renew my subscription. Ever since Saturday, I have gotten a call from this same 502 number every evening between 5 and 7. I let it ring on Sunday, no VM was left. I hit ignore to the call yesterday, no VM. This evening (3/31) around 6:50, the 502 number came up again and I ignored it. A minute later I had a voicemail, the same as everyone else: autotuned female British voice, "you are suspected of tax fraud", "call us immediately at 240-232-2197 and settle your account", "you will be arrested"...blah blah blah. I knew it was a fake, and Im glad Im not the only one. The only thing that confuses me is the number coming in. Probably another part of the scam. Im going to try spreading the word of this around to my friends.
I got the call from Alberta Canada, telling me to call 240-232-2197 too. I have no outstanding tax issues, I knew it was a scam, but I thought I would have some fun with them anyway so I called and when they told me I had to pay $1300 within 24 hours or I'd be asserted, I said, $1300 is that all, that is good because I figure I owe $137,000, I would be glad to settle for $1300..... they actually said their number is only an estimate, then I laughed and said April fools! 'tell the irs to kiss my [***]'.....I hung up and cant wait for the follow-up...
Just got caller ID on my phone - when UNKNOWN was displayed - I did not answer the phone. The message on my answering machine was the same as all the other postings. Waiting for an alert on local TV about this SCAM.
