called my cell number showed up a 580-555-0143 left voice message something about my checks
and i was going to be sued,but number i was to call back was 240-244-0477,not good reception
Received exact call from 240-244-0477 saying I was being investigated for tax fraud. A few days earlier an identical call said I was being investigated for credit card fraud, and if THAT wasn't enough a couple of weeks ago I was being investigated for check fraud! I'm beginning to feel like a real felon! Note that no contact name is ever provided by these callers, only a "Badge number," or other bogus, but legitimate-sounding ID. Also, note that the recording NEVER says to call the Internal Revenue Service, your own state's department of revenue, or a legitimate law enforcement office directly; they always provide THEIR contact number which, of course, is a scam. DO NOT be duped by these creeps; their sole purpose in life is to enrich themselves by separating you from your funds through fear or intimidation. NEVER return their call --- contact the authorities or the IRS directly if you have any question about these telephone intrusions.
Just got a call from 314-555-0119. This is a scam to extort money from people by making them believe they have committed check fraud. DON'T fall for this if you get a call from 240-244-0477 notify your sheriff's dept. and get these thieves caught.
I also just got a call threatening to have me go before a Magistrate and be arrested if I didnt call back 240-244-0477. I didnt know what to make of this as I didnt receive anything in the mail. I didnt know whether to take it seriously or not. I tried to call back to see what this is about and got a busy signal. I then googled the phone number and now see that others have gotten the same message. Glad to know its a scam!
I just called the Sheriff's office and she said that this has been going on for the past 2 years. She said they are no longer taking reports on it unless you have given money which they will then report to the Attorney General's office. She confirmed that it was a scam.
Call from 337-555-0121 telling me I was being charged with tax fraud.... Yeah right, I paid over $21,000 in taxes this year and this is clearly bull$hi&. I was told to call 240-249-0477 before I get arrested. I say this is 100% harassment and mental anguish.
