"For a federal criminal offense, this is a final attempt to reach you. To resolve this issue immediately, and to speak to a federal agent call (240) 292-0166. I repeate, (240) 292-0166, thank you.
Scam! You would never be notified in advance of a warrant, the police would just show up. If you're notified, you can hide and that defeats the purpose. And you cannot pay your way out of a warrant.
Received a voicemail that had already been cut off, informing me that i'd be placed before a grand jury for my crimes. I called back, (this is the second phone call i've received in the last 3 weeks but from a different number) and talked to the guy for 30 minutes. The first phone call I had received at the end of June or early July had been an hour long with a guy who I guess was new because he was giving me way too much way too quickly such as his name was James Harrison, and coming from an seriously Indian guy, this made me realize it was a scam very early on. That one had a robot voicemail as well. Anyway, this second guy , who claimed his name was John Harris, again from an Indian sounding man, was a lot better. He said he was from the criminal division of the IRS and that the IRS was going to prosecute me for tax fraud. He named a bunch of statues, told me they would notify the local sheriff, that we were on a recorded line with IRS, other branches of government, local authorities, homeland security, the whole nine JUST IN CASE they had to use the phone conversation in court, and directed me to the IRS.Gov website to show me where to pay but that it could only be EFTPS of whatever. I asked him as well as the first guy a few weeks ago " why can't I just have money withdrawn on a payment plan from my bank account/debit card?" and they told me I just couldn't because this was because i opted to settle outside of court - something I had said to see if it was the same type of scam as last time. I told him I was pretty sure the IRS doesn't call people, and they both told me that usually they don't, but this was my final attempt to call before they tell my local authorities to cuff me and throw me in jail and both made the POINT to let me know over and over that IF I decided to go to court, if i lost, I would have to pay the IRS $75,000 PLUS whatever legal fees on top of what I actually had due. Both men told me I had just over $2,000 due. Both told me they wanted to work with me, so they put me on hold to talk to their legal department to see what break they could give me. Came back a minute later and told me that their legal department agreed. OH WHAT RELIEF. Except that now I have to pay the 2k IMMEDIATELY TODAY or else the deal was a no-go. I said " well the problem is that I don't have that money on me...." The first guy was really easy. He just asked what i COULD pay immediately and I made up the number " uuhhh $300." He then "put me on hold while he spoke to his legal department" and came back telling me they could settle for $300. This guy today was persistent and was asking me what people i could borrow money from, would my bank give me a loan, and after he had told me i couldn't use a credit card, he turned around and told me i could put some of it on a Credit Card. Ummm What? THEN I said " sir, i understand what you're saying but the problem is that combined, i don't have 2k. That's what i'm trying to tell you." and he "transferred me to his superior in another department" without listing the department or superior's name and this guy came on with an English accent. He repeated the payment options and when I said that i didn't have it, he was kind of frustrated with me and asked what amount I had on my credit card available, and I told him i don't have a high limit and i like it that way because I don't like maxing out cards, blah blah. I kept repeating that I knew i could do a payment plan, if this were real. FINALLY he gets fed up adn ends the call with " okay ma'am well we will send you a letter in the next 5 to 7 business days with payment plan options for you. " and i said " thank you, so much." and he said " yes ma'am, have a good day." Now I wonder if i'm going to receive any mail from them....
