Received this telemarketing call on my cell phone just now -- 1st I've ever received. Wonder how they got the number?
I looked on Intelius.com -- it said the company headquarters in Clinton, Maryland. For a price that site (Intelius) will provide name. address, etc. I decided they weren't worth spending any more of my time, and I certainly wasn't going to spend any money to research them further. They're telephone low-lifes!
rcv'd a call in my office from this # located in Clinton, Maryland. A recorded mesage told me erroniously that the FBI had confirmed a dangerous increase in the crime rate in my area and warned that my home & property were at risk, and if I wanted protection I should press #1. I pressed # 1 and the individual (obviously in a call center) told me that the company was "Home Security Systems" located in Utah but authorized to conduct business in my state. (and then he asked me what state I was located in so he could refer me to a local contractor ...) The individual could not tell me the number he was calling from, a web site for the company or even the name of the local provider until I provided my name and address. I pointed out the incongruence of his request relative to the lack of information he could provide and expressed my resentment that their sales pitch was based upon the propogation of a lie and fear. He appoligized and hung up...
