both my husband and myself received the following message:  Mike said you might be able to use these.  http://bit.ly/UAIEHN

I did not click on it.  These type of things suck.

This number text'd me. They use a common name in the text that odds are you probably know someone by that name, so you will open it. "Mike said you might be able to use these http://b". Do Not Open Link!!

this is the third bogus txt i've gotten this month. all suggesting i open or click a web address...don't these jerks have anything better to do?!

anyway, i forwarded the message to my carrier's security services number.  7726 for Sprint...dont know what they can or will do about it but hopefully it was useful.  At the very least it made me feel like contributing to the solution heheh

Received a text tonight Dec. 15, 2012 at 8:09pm, on my cell phone from 248-326-8019.  It read as follows “ Michelle said to send this to you http://bit.ly/Z92yOy”.  Needless to say I did not access the link.

Thank you to all others, who take the time to enter information here on this site’s message boxes, it helps to find out if others have had a similar let’s say strange, odd, or out of the ordinary text or call.  It would seem that as the perpetrators of misleading or unwanted communications develop and employ various methods to bate us our best defense seems to be our collective knowledge / experience shared here.  So here’s to trying to stay ahead of this rat race, again thanks.

Here are some ways to keep scammers off your phone:

Contact your service provider and have them disable international calling and block third-party providers and premium SMS

If you have a smartphone, go to your app store (or Google Play, if you have an Android phone) and search for free call/SMS blockers. If you live in the US, the Mr. Number app for Android blocks calls, texts and calls with spam complaints automatically. I have it on my phone, and it works great.

For all other cellphones, wait until the phone stops ringing, and look for the missed call message on your screen. Hold your finger down on it until a menu screen appears, then scroll down to Delete or Remove From History.
