I called the number back, and the machine said "Thank you for calling us back on our marketing promotions." Guess its a telemarketer, but I'm on the national dnc list....
Received a call today from a co. identifying themselves as MU asking I was receiving my magazines. Thinking it was my Readers Digest I said "yes". Then they mentioned billing my credit card for 24 months---NO WAY!. i never enterered such a deal. When I asked the names of the magaizines the man couldn't tell me but would transfer me to his supervisor who could, after giving my birthdate. Then he lost the call. A woman called back an said I had answered yes to the question when I thought it was the RD. I succinctly told them they better not try to bill the credit card and I asked her what magazines I was supposedly to receive. She coughed a smoker's type cough and promptly lost the call. This surely is a scam. Beware!
I received a call from this number.. the person kept blabbering something for a minute about how they're seeing if everything is correct on my record, and asked me if Im receiving my magazines on time. I said Yes. Then they said they need to verify if my info is correct, and asked me my DOB. When I started asking questions as to why I need to provide any more info if I dont want anything changed on my subscription, he mentioned that my discount period is ending, and in order to extend the discount, they need to do this verification periodically, or else I will need to start paying $49 per month for the next 41 months. I was shocked at that, and started kinda yelling at him. He then transferred the call to his 'superior', who said that I had been getting the discounts because the magazine company had been paying the rest of my subscription, but now they want the money back, so I cant cancel my subscription for another 41 months. At this point, I was shouting at them, she said, Okay, we'll take care of it, and just hung up.
I searched for the number of my magazine company, and asked them about this. They confirmed that this was not their number. So this is definitely some scam. Beware, people!!
