Identified self as from Texas Highway Patrol. I asked, "Is this an emergency?" (I'm frightened because a family member is overdue for arrival) caller said "didn't mean to frighten you.." "We have an officer down ... "Why are you calling?" I said. Hung up.
I received a call that came up with the phone number and then Unknown Name. He introduced himself as being from the Texas Highway Patrol and asked for me by name as well. He went on to ask me if I had heard about a Highway Patrol named officer Rush who had been killed during a traffic stop and how he'd left behind his wife and four year old daughter. He then proceeded to ask me if I would like to donate and help out the family. I told him that this really didn't sound right and I hung up. He then tried calling back about three times and I left the phone off of the hook. I called my father-in-law who has been in law enforcement for many years and asked if the Texas Highway Patrol did things like this. He said no. My thought is not to buy into something if you don't feel comfortable.
we recieved the same call 281-477-0812, it is a scam call. This is not how a respectful law enforcement organization would act. If you wish to contribute to fallen officers , the best choices are at
www.odmp.org
or
through the local department where you live they will have a organization to assist you.
You people need to learn how to do your own investigation. The Texas HWY Patrol Assn/Mus. IS A NON PROFIT - TAX DEDUCTABLE (501-c-3) ORG. Check it out for yourself instead of making all the accusations just 'cause you're too lazy to figure it out on your own. You can ask the families that they help - how much they actually help... IDIOTS!!
If they were such a great Non Profit wanting to ware me down with sad stories while disturbing my dinner time, then the LOSERS would not hang up on me when I answer. Then the LOSERS would not hang up on me again when I call them back. Sounds like this so called Non profit racket has some REAL LOSERS working a SCAM!!!
