I got a call from them hunting someone. They are West Asset Management, a debt collector. Told me I owed 30 g's on a debt. They had the wrong name, wrong info, everything. Then the little punk wanted to get nasty with me. Kinda hard for me to have got the debt in the first. I was doing a 20 stretch for murder when the debt went down. Wonder what that cat would say to me straight up face to face. Love to get that chance. Love to get that chance.
I've seen a number of notes on this site regarding being registered with the National DNC list. However, since I have used it, I think there is a mistaken notion that you register your phone number and then you're immune by law from these calls.
Two points to help you out:
1. You enter your phone number as part of the input, but you have to go to the DNC list site for each number and enter that number, as directed in the instructions. After about 30 days, the telemarketers are 'supposed' to review those lists and if they see you have filed their number, they must stop phoning you.
2. Collection agencies do not come under this law.
I'd advise you to read the information about the National DNC List to see what the law has provided. But, you don't register your phone number with the belief that that's all you have to do.
The feds have made the listings you input to the DNC List permanent, and not for just a 5 year period, as it was initially established.
Read the DNC List regulation, and remember to also review the FCRA, Fair Credit Reporting Act, as it pertains to what collections agents [agencies and, sometimes, law firms] are allowed to do and under what circumstances, as well as what your rights and remedies are.
Good luck! I get these calls all day long on my land line [law forbids calling cell phone numbers]. I don't answer my land line any longer, unless I happen to see a familiar number [friend, etc.] on my Caller ID. I keep my land line phone ringer turned off... that alleviates a lot of the anxiety that comes with this new age of intrusion and corporate freedom.
