I just got a call from a Lori Newman of 'Smith & Associates' stating that I was going to be arrested for Willful & malicious intent & Larceny by electronic check. This was for a PD Loan and the account ended up being closed later. She claimed that a packet of information was mailed to my old address that I haven't lived at in two years. I vaguely recall getting the loan but after a messy divorce couldn't pay extra bills and couldn't pay this plus a few more. It was either pay this (and other extra bills) or go homeless.
When I asked her about resolving this she told me that it couldn't be resolved because it was going to be sent to a state attorney's office for prosecution and my arrest. I then asked her for contact information (name, address, phone# etc... ) and a copy of this 'packet' that was sent out so that I can give it to my bankruptcy attorney when I file next month and she got rude, abruptly ended the call and hung up on me.
I am very nervous about this now seeing what the first person above posted. I don't mind paying my bills but at one point 'Life' made things impossible to survive so many things had to be let go, including this.
We too received the same call...only this Lori person stated she was a detective! Number one they cannot file charges against anyone who owes a debt, they can just collect on it. Number two, they cannot collect if you are in bankruptcy, and number three, she is committing a felony by posing as a person in law enforcement!! This company is bogus, they won't send out info when you ask for it, and then they make threats!!! Turned them into law enforcement myself!!
I have had several phone calls for this person! It's a SCAM!! Do Not give them any information! I screwed up and gave in and gave them my credit card info and got screwed! PLEASE STAY AWAY!! I called the FBI and Filed a report with the Police Dept and contacted my attorney this morning do to the threatening phones of filing an arrest warrant because I cancelled my credit card! The first person that posted is probably one of them so don't believe it! Contact the Police and file a report or call the FBI and let them know! I called the bar association too this lady and this firm are fraud!
They refuse to give you any info when you have the right to know who is staking this "CLAIM" on you. Also it's the law for them to give out their address..I spoke with my attorney and called the Magistrate and spoke with them this morning. Before you talk with them please no the law first and do some digging of your own. This person "LORI NEWMAN and a Lisa Davis and Inspector Lynn are all apart of the STAGE III GROUP!! FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD!

This lady called me once saying she just worked for an attorney, then changed it to Attorney Lori Newman, and in the last phone call I got she was Inspector Lori Newman! Yes, ALL OF MY CALLS ARE RECORDED!! And I save all voice mails from these [***] who need to get a REAL JOB!
You CAN NOT be arrested for a debt. Their is no debtor's jail anymore. The only thing that they could do would be to sue you in civil court. And if the date of the last payment made on any so called debt is outside of the Statute of Limitations, they can not even win against you in civil court. Most states SOL are 4-7years. Get educated on your rights. They are not attorneys and they are breaking the law by representing themselves as so.

I have received 3 calls from this number.
The first time they said it was a detective.
The second time they said it was the freud division of a collection agency.
The third call was from John Smith (yeah right) from an attorney's office saying that I had 2 felony charges.
I know this isn't true because I just had a background check done to be a foster parent.
I haven't had any loans FOR YEARS!! They are obviously full of it.
