Automated call advertising "free" home security system installation. Dial 1 at end of call to speak with a representative (yeah, right!) or 9 to be put on their company's supposed Do Not Call list. Caller ID name says "Out of Area" and number identified as "1-281-901-8075". Our CID did not report two "1s" before the area code like KC, above. Did not try calling number back as original poster did.
I called this number back. The recording said that the number or code that was dialed was not a working number... Funny, since I called the number back immediately after I was called. I wish these people who hide their identity would get an electrical jolt when they call. That would make me happy, happy, happy...
there might be a reason for that. we live in the 281 area, but that number came to our CID as "112819018075" and the "11" in front may mean 011, which is an overseas code. therefore, someone is using a US area code from outside the US. that spells trouble to me.

Didn't answer this one because it was "Number Only" on the CID, and I've gotten the spoofed 281 area code before &, like KC, suspected it was from another overseas scam.
On the country calling code list, I see that 28* is currently unassigned and reserved for country expansion.(Texas maybe? Heh)
Perhaps the fraudsters/Do Not Call violators may have found a way to take advantage of that?
