Am in Toronto. Call today from 301 - as per call display. Was curious so answered. When I picked it up, a few seconds of dead air and then a recorded female voice said Good Bye, and the call disconnected.
I just got a call from a 301-0 number. It was a heavy accented person who said my windows computer was being hacked and sending out all my important information. I said thank you and hung up. Then I wondered if he could get any information off my phone during the few seconds we were on the phone. What is this ?
I have been getting multiple calls from this 301-0. He claims that their is something wrong with my computer but talks inappropriately to me, making sexual jokes and asking if he can come visit me, saying he's on his way already. It's very creepy and actually beginning to freak me out. This is the third time he's called and he even left me a message this time after I hung up as soon as I heard his voice, says he will keep calling to talk to me. I have a privately owned business so I get lots of calls to my cell and sometimes he pops up a no id or private, and I answer because it I think it's a client. The first time he called I tried to say that I didn't have a computer because I knew it was a scam but then he starts listing things off about me that he shouldn't know. Every time he calls he reminds me of those things, what can I do? This is making me check my whole house when I get home just to make sure.
Saw this on my caller id and chose not to answer. This looks like a "cloaked" number and I would never give anything like that the time of day- other than to see what others have experienced by answering the phone. Many of these calls are from scammers or sociopaths trying to get at your money or your sense of security. I'm shocked that so many people would actually take this kind of call- even under the habit of doing business! Who actually HAS a phone number like that? I think that all the caller wants is for someone to ANSWER THE PHONE so they can find out what numbers are a "hit" for future scam calls using other numbers. It's called PHISHING and I'm surprised that so many people seem to know nothing about this ploy. Hey people, none of this will ever stop until folks STOP ANSWERING CALLS LIKE THIS!!!
