Caller ID said "Sandy Spring." Against my better judgement, I answered the phone. After some noises that were probably related to the handoff of the call from the robocall machine to the sales person, I was asked "Is this Mr. ____<my name>". I don't know how they had my name since I my number is unlisted...but in these these days of wholesale privacy invasion, it doesn't really surprise me. After a noncommittal reply from me, the sales person followed up with "Hi, I'm calling from AMG, a local home improvement company..." At which point I hung up the phone, then added yet another number to my Panasonic phone-system call-block list.
I have a Panasonic phone system also. It has the ability to block 50 numbers but you can put over 3300 numbers in your address book. What idiot came up with that ratio? I'm not even sure I know 50 people I'd want in my address book. So I went to Amazon to find a call blocker...I bought a CPR CALLBLOCKER - cost $80, plug phone line from the wall into blocker, plug blocker into phone - that simple! Works on phone company power - no transformers or 110v needed. It has the capability to block 1200 numbers. It works great. Phone rings - I look at caller ID on the device - if I choose not to answer I tap the big red button on the device - one complete ring later the phone hangs up. That number is now blocked. Next time they call the device will give about a half ring then stop. It needs that half ring time to allow the calling number to come thru and be recognized. One day the phone rang and it was me (the caller id had my name and number on the phone that was ringing). That has to be an internet call where they can spoof any name and any number. Since I'm unable to answer the phone that I'm simultaneously calling myself on... I blocked myself also. I'm up to 147 blocked numbers. Where I used to get 20-30 a week I now get 2 or 3. I would like a remote that shows the number and allows me to block the call. If you are not near the blocker, you can’t push the red button. However, you can go thru the phones caller id and manually enter a number into the blocker. It will be so quiet…. You’ll fall asleep in the middle of the day :)
