I recieved a call from 'John Smith' who said he was calling from UR PC Care in Columbus Ohio in Canada. (Ohio is NOT in Canada) When I resisted his instructions to turn on my computer and go to a certain screen, he was abrupt and passed me to his supervisor 'Peter' who was also rude and told me I needed to fix my computer because through the Internet he could tell I was transmitting viruses. (I am not, and they can not - I am a computer tech and know how to keep my machine clean).
This is a scam and should not be participated in. If they call you simply say good bye and hang up.
I too received a call today (January 12. 2012) from "UR PC CARE". The man told me same thing as he did to you all. When I refused to accept his assistance he said something like this: 'Listen, it is simple, just sit in front of your PC, and follow my instructions'. I replied by saying: "I do not own a PC. I have a MacBook." He said: "Sorry." and then immediately hung up. Obvious scam indeed. As of matter of fact there is an article about this scam. The title of the article is: "Microsoft at a loss over Event Viewer Scam"
Total scam. Never answered the phone, not first time they tried to call, either. I worked in IT, there is no way they can see ur computer, and microsoft would never contact you in that manner. Unfortunately, they are the prob, installing malicious software, keyloggers. The people that fall for this scam are unlikely to ever find this page....sigh...
