Got phone call on cell. Message was so fast, didnt really understand all of the message. Said I won a trip with no purchase neccessary. Push 1 to continue, did so and got disconnected. Big scam, hope nothing happens to cell phone.
This number kept calling back over and over. They finally left of message we won something. The problem is they got a hold of our cell phone. We were told the only thing we could do was change our number.
Called me on August 30 on my cell and left a message on my voice mail. It was a little garbled in the beginning but I clearly heard the word "advertising" (as in part of the company name). They said that I had won a drawing that I or one of my relatives had entered last year. They then gave a confirmation code and a 800 number to call to claim the prize. It sounded suspicious so I never called back.
This morning, close to noon, my cell phone rang. I never answer calls from numbers that I don't recognize, and seeing how the 301 area code is nowhere NEAR from here, I didn't answer. The message is a recording; a man named James, from Vacation Promotions, telling me that I have won a trip to any international airport in the US, Canada, or Mexico (round trip,) and three day, two nite hotel accommodation for two. He then gave an 800 number to call back (within 48 hours) to confirm the vacation in my family's name. I wanted to do some research on it, because I had a feeling it was probably a scam.
1. Vacation Promotions doesn't have a website. What business like that doesn't?
2. When I googled the number I received the call from, the only results that came up were ones like this.
3. When I googled the 800 number I was given, I didn't get any results, either.
I'd say it's safe to assume that this is a scam; especially seeing how most of the other 301 numbers listed on here have been scams.
