It's called the FDCPA and is one of the many rights Americans have. "..you all say smith & cohen is a scam when in reality everyone who has debt in their office are the real scammers..." come again? If you're saying the debt collectors' office are the real scammers, you'd be correct.

Debt is civil, not criminal, and people fail to pay back loans all the time for reasons varying from bankruptcy due to divorce or medical bills, to losing their jobs, to catastrophic disability. Yes, some people do deliberately default on their loans - however, that does not give debt collectors the right to harass and try to circumvent the law - which is they can't collect a debt if THEY fail to mail documentation proving the alleged debtor owes the debt and the caller has the right to collect said debt. And please do PROVE that all the posters here actually do owe a debt and have failed to pay it back.

I received several calls from this number but I could not understand the name of the person that the auto dialer was asking for. I called the number back and politely explained that I was unsure of who they were trying to reach. The lady was extremely rude to me and when I said that I would relay the message but since this person is a relative and does not live here to please stop calling me, her response was, "I will keep calling you. She left this number". I told her that there wasn't any need to be rude, I was trying to understand why she was calling me. She yelled I will call talk to you tomorrow and every day about this case. Since when is a family member's personal financial business, my business? Filing a complaint.
