I got the yellow card in the mail too. I know there are people out there that get scared when they see signs like this one. My advise is always don't just look at the mail and react!. Read it twice and do a search on it if you are not sure. Also the first place to look for a company info is the Better Business Bureau. I did that with this company and they install water systems for house that don't have city water. This company had 45 complains in the last 3 years. They try to get you with a free water test at home. The way they advertise is deceiving, especially older people. Also, check for phone numbers that are registered as scam or telemarketers.
Just purchased a house (city water). Got this yellow postcard a few weeks later. This is just the latest iteration of a certain species of (junk mail) marketing that has been around for a long time: trying to look official and coax or alarm people into contacting the sender, who then unleashes a sales pitch. I ignore anything that doesn't tell me up front what the product or service is. And I'm very wary of anyone who claims or implies that they've tried to contact me when I know they haven't.
This may not technically be a "scam", but it is definitely very shady marketing practices and I would NEVER buy a product from a company like this. As others have stated, It is on a bright yellow postcard with "WATER UPDATE on the front with name/address, their address (AWP 74 Southgate Blvd. New Castle, DE 19720) and a PA/NJ license # and in small print "This is not a water utility or govt agency". On the back it again says "WATER UPDATE with Unfortunately, we've been unable to contact you. Please contact us within the next 72 hours. Call between 9am-9pm Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm Sat, 302-544-7145, Thank you". Aww, how nice they say thank you.
The firm is Atlantic Water Products - DE and surprisingly has been in business for 24 years per the BBB site. They are a seller/reseller of water filtration and purification equipment and also go by AWP or Rainsoft of New Castle. They show up as a Rainsoft dealer if you put in a DE zip code on the Rainsoft website. The phone number on the postcard is different from the number showing on BBB and Rainsoft. The BBB site shows Ms. Devon Schickling as Director of Marketing. Devon or any other management member at AWP, if you ever read this, your marketing tactics are extremely misleading and "scummy" as you can probably tell by all of the comments here. If you "farm out" your marketing, you should fire that company, if you do this type of marketing yourselves, shame on you.
This is 100% scam. They send a postcard, possibly targeting 55+ communities (as this was sent to my mom's home in an sr. community. It falsely suggests that you are late with your water bill payments and threatens to shut off your water. It even say's 2nd attempt, final notice, etc. It suggests they will shut off your water. Fortunately, I handle all of mom's bills and could tell right away that it's total BS. Be careful.
