Jav, they are required by law to send you proof of the debt (and their right to collect it!) IN WRITING. By mail -- not fax, email, etc. Until they do that you should ignore them (read the posts above yours). This is a company identifying themselves as NAM Associates. They leave threatening, harassing messages on my voicemail concerning some "legal matter" that MUST be taken care of by close of business today. They are apparently located in Wilmington DE. After some research, I discovered that they are a fly by night scammer collection agency.
I had the same phone call yesterday only they called me at work in the evening. I spoke with a woman wanted for me to write down information and I said I don't allow anyone to call me on my job, if I owe a debt send it to me in writing. She said that there was documentation sent to me and I said no you didn't and I hung up.
They called saying in a message that legal documents will be served to my house between 4 and 6 and if I am not there they will have to go to my employer. I HAVE BEEN UNEMPLOYED FOR 12 YEARS!!!
Received a call from Brianna Banks from NAM Associates for a debt I do owe. She indicated that if I did not agree to the terms then legal action would be taken, so I had to sign documents by the close of business today. I was told they had verified my employment and would win a large settlement that would be taken from my taxes or garnished from my wages. I am out on FMLA since my surgery. I intend to pay the debt but she has stated I must agree by the end of the day to the terms offered. But the mandatory 25% upfront is more than I have. I just don't know what to do. Can anyone provide alternatives.
