Folks, you are being way too innocent.........the government does very little about these places. I had an interesting conversation with a previous employee of one of these 'dialer-cold call' companies a couple years ago. He also at one time worked for a 'debt recovery' company. (Kind of like calling a 'trashman' a 'sanitation engineer').......He told me that when hired, you are told about the rules, but it's all done with a big *wink*.....that most managers tell 'call-makers' to keep calling even if they are told they have the wrong number. He said that these places know that 99% of the people that say they will take legal action NEVER do.
He said most callers use a fake name when they do business. His alias was Mr. Carson. He laughed and said he ripped the name off after a trip to Carson, Nevada.
He said that these places have several numbers they use. This way, if you recognize one number and block it or don't answer, they just use another number and call again and again. Mr. Carson said THE favorite tactic of these people is repeated calling with harrasment because it is very seldom anyone of them gets in trouble. He said there were several times other callers would put 'clients' on speakerphone (without that persons knowledge or permission) and "ramp it up"......start shouting, using threating language, being rude......just to get a response from the 'client' so that everyone could get a laugh. Mr. Carson said he left the calling business mostly due to the type of 'low life scum' (his words) that he had to work around every day.
So, don't look for much help from the so-called Do Not Call List authorities.....these call companies are businesses, businesses make money, and they pay taxes. It's great that this resource exists so that people know who is calling, but just don't expect much when you complain.

Another SILENT call. I pick up the phone and say hello several times.  Silence. I hang up.

But from all your comments it seems to be the same old "auto warranty calls" I've been getting for over a year now.  I've told them I don't even have a car & I'm on DONOTCALL.

I've filled a DONOTCALL complaint every single time they call.  I've filed FCC complaints.  I've calling my carrier (Tmobile).  When the # is even a real # I"ve reported it to that state's Attorney General.  I've even tried local police in the city the calls originate from in FLA.

Nothing seems to work!!

P.S.  I  read last week that Verizon sued a film company for recorded calls promoting a movie, maybe Verizon user can make their carrier track them down & sue them (since mine won't!)

These people have been calling me several times a week for a few months now. I've tried everything from: -pressing "2" to "close my file" (doesn't work), -telling them I don't own a vehicle (doesn't work), -asking them nicely to stop (doesn't work), -yelling and threatening them (doesn't work), -telling them I've reported them to the FTC several times (doesn't work). So I've resorted to a new plan of attack and I think everyone else should too. TOTALLY F%$& WITH THEM. Pretend to legitimately want to renew your warranty. Make up fake vehicle makes and models, VIN numbers, names and credit card numbers. Keep them on the phone as long as possible (tell them they have to wait while you gather info, etc. and put them on hold for 5 minutes each time). Tell them you have several vehicles that need warranties. Act as legitimate as possible because they hang up at the first sign of problems. I had them on the phone for 20 minutes the other day. I'm hoping eventually they'll realize it's a major waste of time to call my house.
