Thanks for the info guys. I normally do NOT answer calls like this. Put them in my address book as SC (DATE) so I know I have had that call before. But recently I had investigated information about a drug that I take that is expensive and I was checking to see if there was a program to get a better discount on it. I know that some drugs do have such programs. This may have been generated from my questions. So I will answer the next time they call.
Social Service Coordinators is a legitimate organization that assists Medicare Beneficiaries in determining if they are Eligible for federal assistance programs called the Medicare Savings Program and the Low Income Subsidy Program. The Medicare Savings Program is a program that should the beneficiary qualify, their Medicare Part B premium cost would be taken care of via this program saving the beneficiary around $96. There are financial guidelines that need to be met meaning to qualify if you’re single Your gross monthly income must be under $1,239.75 with less than $6600 in assets. To qualify as a couple Your gross monthly income must be under $1,660 with less than $9910 in assets. For the Low Income Subsidy Program which assists with the cost of Medications, if you’re single Your gross monthly income must be under $1,373.75 with less than $12,510 in assets. To qualify as a couple Your gross monthly income must be under $1,841.25 with less than $25,010 in assets. Figures and asset limits may change. Social Service Coordinator calls typically will register from Florida or Arizona. They will work as a liason for the beneficiary. I know this information as I work for one of the top 5 insurance companies in the country, and we contract with them to provide the service.
Very true, they also have a department called Golden Touch at Extension 7411 where they help seniors and disabled individuals learn about and enroll into community programs that can help them with medications, utility bills, food, expensive medications, etc. and is all done through local government agencies and humanitarian foundations that many financially disadvantaged seniors and disabled individuals are not aware of. I personally have a family member who has health insurance with Hip Vip in New York and he was having to pay full retail price for a cancer medication in the Donut Hole and Social Service Coordinators helped him with a prescription assistance program that he was not aware of and they helped him get approved and he got his medication free of charge. This is a real company, it is not a scam and they are contracted with many HMO's.
