Same as everyone else, asking to update business listings for a web site, but they asked me if I was authorized to make changes to my service. I questioned them about this, and they hung up.
the guy called my business today (sounded like an indian accent) and saying he was from the yellow pages and they just wanted to update the information, etc.. there was no obligation to buy anything they would just send information... then got transferred to quality control to confirm the information... he said he only had 90 seconds to confirm the information and asked me information but then he said "can you confirm that you are over 18 and are authorized to make decisions to this phone line?" and i said no, i'm over 18 but i'm not authorized to make changes to the phone line - so he said "i know you are not authorized that is why i'm sending the information to the business owners in the mail." so i was like, okay but then he had to start over the 90 second "quality control again" so he could get me saying "yes" to the previous question on tape... which didn't sit well with me but i let it go... then the last question had to do with the new offer they're supposedly sending us information to look over but he rattled off the information so fast, i couldn't be sure but it sounded like he was trying to get me to authorize purchasing the product - so i stopped him and said no and then he gave me the same line (from a script) about how they aren't selling anything it's just to send information - well, if that's true then why try to record me saying otherwise? then he said he's have to do the 90 second questioning thing again and it was only his second day at work and to please not hang up the phone... well it just seemed odd to me, and i didn't feel comfortable about the situation so i hung up... then he called right back on both lines (i didn't pick up) but googled the caller id instead and found this site....
i've updated with yellow pages before and it's NEVER been like this - only a quick update of information and then goodbye.
Don't have caller id, but I've gotten the same phone call you all are describing twice in the last week. I have asked to speak with the supervisor and been disconnected, and the second time asked if the person can tell me at the outset that she isn't selling anything, that it isn't going to cost me anything -- and got disconnected.
This person with the heavy foreign accent called my business on 9/25 and 9/26. Wanting to upgrade my yellow page listings. I told him "I hung up on you yesterday, so don't call again". There's no way to find out who this is, but I wish that someone would put a stop to him. I don't have time for this crap.
Same thing here. Heavy accent, just wanting to "confirm our information" and then the quick switch to quality control. I also tried calling this number back the next day from caller ID and got a disconnected number. How can they do that so quickly and still use the same number? I called my phone company to see if my account can be flagged for potential slamming. I was told there was no way to stop them from putting bogus charges on my account. AT&T said the PUC mandates them to accept billing to accounts from any source. The best she could do is make a note on my account so if I do get slammed and I call in, the previous complaint will make it easier to take off the charges.
The AT&T lady even tried to find the source of this number and came up blank. She googled it for me and found this site. Her supervisor was going to check into the situation but I doubt they can do anything. I think these parasites have found a loophole in the laws and are taking full advantage of it. I guess the best thing to do from now on is always answer "no" to any questions from telemarketers (so they can't tape you saying yes)-then hang up.
