I got two calls from them. First time they claimed they were the UCLA Medical Switchboard like the above email. I was drunk and told them to go fvck themselves b/c I thought it was a friend messing with me because they called twice in a row, drunk logic (8/14/2008). next time they said they were updating alumni records and stated to me an mailing address that I never had on file while at UCLA and they stated my email address and asked if it has changed and if I minded telling them my new mailing address. I told them I wasn't comfortable giving out my personal info on the phone and told them to email me a link were I can update it myself. I figured its easier to tell if a website is fraudulent than some random person calling me (this was 8/19/08). The address they stated appears on my credit report though so I was super weary because while at UCLA 35,000 people's SSN numbers and personal information were stolen when their records were hacked and mine was one of them. That's all I know. I am never gonna verify information with them especially because they said they were someone different each time. What questions did they ask you guys?
Also received a missed call this evening (24 August 2008) with the Caller ID showing 310-794-6699, no message left in my voicemail. I don't live in the SoCal area, although unfortunately I did graduate from UCLA years ago and was exposed as part of the big SSN breach. Really hope there's no connection and that this is just some amateur crank-calling. However my phone number that was called is new within last few years and is unlisted/unpublished and kept fairly private (though, alas, is part of my alumni file at UCLA). Argh.
Agree with FE's sentiment above, don't provide/confirm any info to unsolicited callers.
I had the exactly similar experience. She verified my mailing address and said to send me some alumni inforamtion. She even knew the year when I graduated.
I've gotten at least 10 calls over the past 2 weeks from this number and do not answer. They also have not left a single voice message. It's weird because they call at random times and they usually call 2-3 times before stopping. I hope that the authorities are able to track down the people calling and eventually find out who hacked the UCLA database (if they are related?).
Have received calls the past two days from this number. I called back once and there was some sort of receptionist on the line, but I couldn't hear what she said, and I hung up. I am a UCLA alumni.
