I am a real auto parts merchant who was scammed by these people. They ordered a part, asked me to send it to a different location, then called and said that they never actually ordered it, stopped payment on the card, etc.-When I talked to them, they said that there were many businesses in Chicago named "Quality Auto Parts" and that I didn't even know their address. Then they hung up. They did not expect that I would actually keep the faxed order form. But I did.
I got a call from this number within an hour of submitting an automotive parts request. He confirmed my part and searched his inventory for it. He had one grade c, that they don't sell (poor quality) and another out for inspection.
He had an accent, but I'm no expert. It seemed legit to me.
Received a call from the number after searching for a part for my car. As far as I can tell, they're legit (but may represent various companies as a call center). The company, at least in this case, is Quality Auto Parts in Chicago. I also received an email in conjunction with the call. I've been speaking to a guy (with Indian accent) for several minutes. Got a price quote for a replacement computer--New $1300 plus, Used $340. Seems like a good deal, but will research before purchasing.
Yep, I had the same thing happen to me and it was some guy with an Indian or Middle Eastern accent. He claimed to have worked for Ford for 3 years and was a "specialist" on Ford parts. He called about 30 mins after I posted a request for a car part on a part search site.
He tried to get me to buy the part and I was suspicious at that point and ask for a number to call him back. He did and after I hung up I dialed that number he gave me and I got a message saying the number was no longer in service.
Be very weary of these people, snake oil salesmen!
