You are an idiot. These people are calling for people who are not even at the phone number they are calling. I am on the Do not call list; I have never taken out a payday loan; they are calling and asking for people who are not at this number
The feweere people that fall for this criminal scam and don't pay these crooks, the sooner they will shut down! DON'T PAY THEM ONE CENT! THEY ARE CROOKS! HANG UP THE PHONE!
Everyone---when the call and make threats, record the calls (notify them that you are recording). I bet they hang up and sstop calling. If you are lucky enough to get the threats they make (jail, etc.) on a recording, send a copy to the law authorities (FTC, FBI, local law). When they make these threats, they are committing felonies.
This company just called me and left a message stating I issued a fraudulent check to a payday loan company in 2005 and if I did not contact them within 24 hours they would hand this case over to the local county I live in. I immediately called them back. They knew the last 4 digits of my social security number. I don't remember not paying this loan back (I was pretty young and stupid) and I certainly haven't heard anything about this for the past 6 years. She told me the loan was for $300 and I now owed $1000. I told her I would call my husband and call her back. I don't know what to do. I don't want to go to jail or court. I can't remember if I paid this back or not in 2005.
What should I do?
