I could tell immediately from the background noise, he was calling from a call center. He asked for me by name. I said it was me. He indicated his record said the factory warranty on my vehicle had expired. (He mentioned the make model, and year of my vehicle.) I asked if he was trying to sell me something. He repeated my vehicle information and said the factory warranty had expired. I asked again if he was trying to sell me something. He said, "Pardon?" I spoke slowly and asked, "Are.you.trying.to.sell.me.something?" He said he was trying to provide information on how I could renew the warranty on my vehicle. I said I wasn't interested. There was a pause, and he disconnected the call.
Unsure of the company name, but the caller ID said "Chicago, IL"
I never answer these unknown numbers. This time i did; the caller wanted to know if i was still in possession of my automobile. He skirted my repeated question of the company he represents. I hung up. At least, now, he has a working phone number that he can sell to other scammers.
