I remember the good old days - if the phone rang, it was "Be very polite - it may be someone important" Now it's - don't touch that phone until you check caller ID. I'm trying to get a class reunion together and locate fellow GIs that I served with years ago. Always have to check numbers before responding adding to the hassle.
Anytime I get a number I don't recognize and they do not leave a message, I assume it is obviously telemarketing or a scammer and I do not answer. I report to the Do Not Call registry as they call my cell phone. I do not give out my cell phone number so this caller obviously has obtained it illegally. However, it seems the Do Not Call registry is pretty worthless.
Received a 9:27 a.m. call from this number on my cell. I did not answer and they did not leave a message. Regularly receive calls from this area code. Answered one the other day on a lark and a woman was speaking about a visit we'd made to a resort; NOT. Could not get a word in edgewise and hung up. All our phones are on the Do Not Call List, but it seems to have little effect. One of the great things about cell phones used to be that 'lists' of numbers weren't sold and folks weren't bothered with these calls. It is infuriating and I so wish these people would be caught/jailed. Now have an even 60 blocked numbers on my cell..."
