I just called the number back 888-907-0906 (there are numerous variants of this number so heads up for those getting text messages about a "job")
I called the number back this time because I have gotten similar text messages saying "Hi XXXX, I just reviewed your application for the Manufacturing position you applied for. Please call me at 888-907-0906". I decided enough was enough. The young sounding guy on the phone right away says "Hi, my name is Jake. Is this XXXX?" Now...that is messed up. He knew my name instantly. Anyway, I said "Jake, look man. I am really trying hard to find a job. If a company was interested in hiring me they wouldn't kick things off with a TEXT MESSAGE" He claims they do the interviewing on behalf of the company that's hiring. I asked him "Okay Jake. If you know the name of the company that's interested in hiring me, please give me the name because I have a whole list of company names I have written down that I've submitted resumes/applications for work" He was caught off guard and became really defensive. He said the company wanted to remain anonymous. He tried again and again to get my "information" to "begin the interview process". Yeah right. I told him look, just remove my information from your database because I don't have time for this. He tried to assure me they were a legitimate company. I said "since when does a company interested in hiring send you a TEXT MESSAGE?!" He immediately said "Okay. You are no longer considered for the position and you will be removed from our system". oooooohhhhhh soooooo scared!
Keep in mind that there are indeed 3rd party companies that do the interviewing for the company that is hiring. Many of those do in fact remain anonymous. However, the number(s) associated with said numbers are not who they say they are. Bottom line - stay alert. Don't give them personal information.
There are programs that scan sites like Career Builder, Hot Jobs and Craigslist (and others) and look for phone numbers and email addresses so you can get spammed with their false crap and unwanted calls for things like "online education/online college". I got a call last week in fact, from a woman asking if I wanted to further my education online because I indicated that on a job application (which I did NOT mind you...on ANY job I applied for).
they texted me saying hi, i just reviewed your application for the clerk position you applied for. please call me at 888 907 4196. i didn't call and found this web page after googling the number.
