Thanks for the clarification. Before moving to Chicago a few years ago,
I lived for many years in Suffolk county, Long Island and don't remember
being bothered by donation calls. Now I understand why. Thanks.
Currently I live in New York. And I have gotten calls with different New York area codes, but they all come up as unknown name or the best was Attica , New York . It just makes me angry that they use the police or fire department for their own scams, my neighbor is a cop and another neighbor is a volunteer firefighter and they get annoyed over these calls too.
nicole> ... the company only donates 1.25% of what you donate.

That is a very relevant piece of information.
I often wonder how much the companies making
such calls charge for their services, but I am
usually afraid of asking. Actually, I do remember
having asked a few times, and the caller becoming
upset, hanging up, or giving some uninformative
answer.
So I would greatly appreciate if you were so kind
to tell us your source of information. Thanks.

A good question also! :) Charity calls are not allowed in Oregon per the state DNC. They also followed through this last year with a law stating they must fork over 35% or better to operate here.
They may be exempt from the DNC, but they can still get into trouble. They are supposed to place you on their internal list when asked. So they are only exempt to a point.
