I received the same call as well. I told the lady there was nobody at this number who pays the gas bill, and she seemed very confused to hear that. I heard what sounded like boiler room noise as well, so I figured this was a possible scam, too.
This is a "switch your electric provider" scam. Easy to spot because the A) Never ask for the homeowner by name and instead ask for "the person who pays the electric bills". and B) because the caller ID shows them [***] "Cell phone". Don't give these scumbags any personal info.
They wanted to talk to the person who who pays the gas bill. I don't have a gas bill. Obvious from the delay in answering and the background noise that it was a scam call.
