Since most consumers have caller ID and screen their calls for 888, 800 numbere, etc, the collection companies have employed a new tactic. They will use a number from the area code of the person they are looking for. Most consumers will pick up the phone if the call appears to come from their own area code, not giving it a second thought. The best advice: DO NOT PICK UP YOUR PHONE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO IS CALLING. I only answer calls if there is a name or a number I am familiar with.
