Called 10:28 am, caller id said KANSAS, got several tones then a recording saying "please hold, we are checking your phone lines" and started to repeat when I hung up. Also called my phone company, Qwest, who does not operate in Kansas. They said they do not do anything like that, but couldn't trace the call. They said I would have to report it to the police & then go to their security dept, but would only do that if my life was threatened. I asked them to make a note in my account of this call in case there was any fraudulent activity-guess we'll have to wait and see.
I received 2 phone calls from this number 20 mins apart. As others have stated CallerID says Kansas. 1st-call there are 3 tones and then a man's voice recording saying "We are testing your phone lines. Your lines are OK." I hung up at that point. 2nd call-There are 3 tones and then a man's voice recording saying "This is an automatic call. Your phone lines are being tested. Please don't be alarmed. We are sorry for any inconvience this may cause." I hung up right about then. I then called my phone company, Verizon, which (after switching me from dept to dept 3 times and then losing me) finally told me they do not have any repair dept from Kansas. They did check to make sure it wasn't some kind of way to put in an order for us to switch our phone company. It wasn't. And there was no report of trouble in our area. At this point it seems like it is just a crank call.
