Voicemail from the Tax Assistance Department - doesn't say they are the IRS - must be the "company" name. Any gov't agency phone number is publicly listed and should show up as whatever agency it is if you search the number. Called the number back and got a voicemail saying I reached the tax assistance department. Would advise against answering calls from this number.
I have gotten several calls from this number telling me they want to assist with back taxes I owe the IRS. When I told them I did not owe any back taxes, she was taken aback and asked me 3 times are you sure you don't owe the IRS money? I hung up.
Got a call that repeated Hello world 3 times then said goodbye then hung up, but it wasn't this number. The number that called me was (202) 622-5000. I called the number back and it is the IRS.
