I made the mistake today of answering the phone today. These people are from Cocoa Beach, Florida. They start the call off with a recording telling you that you are going to win a free trip to Florida and then give you some sort of confirmation number and tell you to press 1. I pressed 1 and an agent (a young guy, early 20's) came on the line immediately and asked for the confirmation number. I asked him if he was crazy calling people and telling them they are going to win a free trip. I told him never to call my number again, he laughed, and I hung up. These people are scammers, probably want your credit card or bank account number. If you have caller ID, don't even bother answering the phone!!
These people called me but when the answering machine came on they hung up. I called the number back since I have caller ID and the operator said "the number has been disconnected or I dialed the wrong number, please try again." Also sometimes when I receive these kinds of calls I hit the answer button and then I hit the hang up button to give back to them. I guess these people don't bother to check "The Do Not Call Register".
I get so annoyed from all these calls, from this number and many others all across the country. I have Caller ID. This number comes through as "Florida", and I do not answer. When I don't know people in these areas it automatically must be a telemarketer because I have no ties to anyone where these numbers originate. And if they truly "needed" me, they would speak, and leave a call back number. Their 'recordings' and human telemarketers don't leave messages because they aren't going to 'make a sale' to another machine!! I am also supposed to be on a Do Not Call list. So much for that! Just the fact that the phone rings and rings continuously......... 4 times before my machine picks up..... then it hangs up because they didn't get a live person. And this goes on 'til 9:00 PM which is extremely annoying for the family.
