This is almost the same thing happening to me. I'm glad i made it to this website and see that I'm not alone here. They (the collectors) were saying they were sending me proof of my debt to an old address where my cousin lives, it has never arrived. When I started to get calls about papers being served I got a little concerned, i feel dumb about that now. But i ended up giving them my current address, so that might bite me in the [***] later. I just won't open the door when someone I don't know is there haha. The debt they want is from 2005. Its crazy.
Not to mention I called them back because they practically "bullied" me to by calling my in laws (which is illegal) and the lady I spoke with got into a confrontation over the phone with a co worker with me on the phone. Saying she was gonna kill the person for slapping her ..etc. they are completley ghetto and not sure if they are even legit !
They called me too saying the sheriffs were coming to serve me and that I had 4 charges. Including credit card fraud. For a credit card debt, so I ended paying them in full. So did I just get scammed?! What do I do now!?
You probably did.. Real legal servers do not call you in advance of serving papers. You can not be arrested for debt, its a civil matter, not criminal. How can you be charged with Credit Card fraud if the card is yours? Did you steal someone's card then and also commit identity theft? It would be a debt if its your card and again a civil matter.
