I have received several phone calls from this agency for A FAMILY MEMBER NOT FOR ME!!! I wanted to make that clear. I have gotten to the point where I have blocked at least 5 phone numbers all from different states. My call block service keeps a log of calls and when they call, they do so 3-5 times in a row back to back. All the calls come through within one minute. They leave messages on my vm (which my block service allows) stating they are looking for this family member in regards to collecting a debt for which that person is being sued.
So okay this person doesn't have a good history paying bills, however that is neither here nor there. I always pay my bills on time. The point is this company is in violation of the law firstly by telling me that they are calling about a bill for someone else and that the person is being sued. Secondly by not saying it's an urgent matter for that person and if I am not the correct person hang up and do not listen to the recording. They must give a person that opportunity to hang up before stating why they are calling. I unfortunately get other debt calls for this person as they must have used my name as a reference. Other legitimate collectors leave that recording first allowing me the chance to hang up. Thirdly, the few times I did speak to them before blocking them I requested their mailing address so I could write them asking that they not call me again and they hung up without giving it to me. I have verbally asked them not to call me as I am not the debtor but they still call. Fourth, my family member told me she asked them to send her info confirming they own the debt and info on the debt itself as to what company it is, the date of original delinquency and the amount owed, which legally they must supply and they hung up on her. She isn't saying she doesn't owe, she just wanted verification as to what debt it is. Her husband passed away unexpectedly a few years back with only $10,000 in life insurance which was used for the funeral. They have 4 children together and she was a house wife. Her life fell apart when he died and it took her time to rebuild which she has slowly done. She has paid many of the delinquent debts and is now almost done. All she wanted was verification and they refused to give by hanging up. I tried to research the company and have found 4 states that have a business with that name as a debt collector. The numbers that have called me do not match any listed online so this is why red flags go up for me. Why can't I verify this company? To all of you who call people who don't pay their bills "scumbags" walk a mile in their shoes before you judge anyone. No one is perfect and some people have legitimate problems.
Thanks!!!
Just received a call from Tom Hazel, 864-252-8408, a mediator representing M Haynes and Associates on my voicemail for a relative. "Yes it was an urgent matter, that I have my relative contact them immediately before legal action blah blah." Not sure if he should have disclosed this information to me, calling Arkansas Attorney General's Office tomorrow to file a compliant. BTW the account was not a joint account nor did I co-sign, dont have a clue why Tom Hazel called me, except to harass me and embarass my relative. From the other comments, guess I need to get his "current" mailing address, if I do I will post for all.
Oh and something I was taught years ago, never ever pay these guys anything, not one red cent. Should you decide to pay your account, pay your original creditor, these type of companies purchase your charged off accounts and then attempt to colllect. Know your rights!
If you dont want to be contacted, don't associate yourself with scumbags who dont pay their bills. We follow state and federal law in the financial service industry.
The message you are "quoting" me as leaving is inaccurate.
You can file a complaint with anyone you would like to, at the end of the day we adhere to all laws... But considering you have a lot of time on your hands, feel free to do whatever you would like.
As for paying the creditor direct... Creditors sell debt after as little as 6 months of non payment. Once they sell it, they can not take payment. You would have to pay the new owner of the account...
Not only are you a drama queen (embelishing the message that was left, and claiming you are being harrased after 1 phone call) you are an idiot who has no clue what hes talking about. Tell the person who "taught" you hes a moron for us too. Thanks and have a good day!
you do not follow the law scumbag - over a 10 year old debt you are trying to collect--good luck on that in the commonwealth of pennsylvania--you will be paying me money when i sue your a**..
