Received a call (again) from 323-325-9122, CallerID showing only "Los Angeles CA". Number already blocked using call blocker device so the call was automatically disconnected soon after the first ring. Whether or not the caller is actually soliciting on behalf of the ASPCA is unknown. It would seem that legitimate callers would display proper CallerID information. These days I just go on the assumption that every unknown call is a spammer using a spoofed phone number unless I recognize the number.
For the record, I was on the Do Not Call registry since its inception but elected to opt off of the list earlier this year since the number of unsolicited calls have increased during the past two years anyway. My suspicion or crazy conspiracy theory is that it has now become so common to spoof phone numbers that some outfit will register with the FCC under a legitimate phone number then use list of Do Not Call phone numbers as a source of known 'good' phone numbers to call with a spoofed number. It's just a guess, though - I have no real data or statistics to back up my theory.
has now called 5 times, blocked by phone each time. But now I am going to use one of my 5 free blocks at
Ver*zon to block it at the provider level. Usually after a month or so, that number stops calling.
But despite blocking at Verizon, somehow this number got through again - and its not blocked on my phone anymore - so I think they are using some hidden characters in their number now.
This is apparently a spoofed number/ID as it comes through on my caller ID as ASPCA. Since it calls all the time, I have never checked the number against this site but also have never answered the call. No message is ever left.
